Our Beers

Craft Beers

A brewery that takes the time to brew beer, not money.
The manufacturing process is entirely natural. It does not use any preservatives, colorants, additives, flavor enhancers, stabilizers, clarifiers, foaming agents, correctors or others that often pollute so-called craft beer.
In terms of the process, the Brasserie de la Lesse does not use any forcing. No centrifugation, no forced saturation with CO2, no pasteurization.

It does not use any modern techniques inherited from the industry, which aim to reduce production costs and artificially improve the beer (color, taste, creaminess of the foam, clarity, saturation, etc.). Beer is a living product, made with living raw materials. This requires a lot of knowledge and a great ability to adapt.

Presentation

A Little History

The Brasserie de la Lesse was born like many microbreweries. Originally, a group of friends, from a youth movement in Buissonville, and lovers of good beers, formed a brotherhood: the Confrérie du Busson. Little by little, they went from being consumers to producers.

In 2011, buoyed by the success of their first beers at the local level, members of the Confrérie du Busson reactivated the former Brasserie Rezette which once brewed “La Rochefortoise” beers in the heart of the village of Éprave. They decided to rename it: “Brasserie de la Lesse”, after the brewery of the same name that was active in the 20th century in the village of Lessive.

From the start, the brothers wanted to create a company that could meet the challenges of the 21st century: ethical, ecological, local, sustainable and civic. A craft brewery offering quality beers, brewed with local and organic raw materials, whose societal impact will be positive, by participating in the creation of an economic fabric between local actors adhering to the same values. A company where utopia can become reality.
To do this, they decide to opt for the model of a cooperative with a social purpose, based on the relocation of the economy, the creation of activity in rural areas and participatory management.

The Brasserie de la Lesse is a cooperative with a social purpose

If its corporate purpose is to manufacture and market beer, its social purpose is the relocation of the economy, sustainable development, participatory management, strengthening short circuits and resilience.
Created in 2011, it offers high-quality, 100% organic craft beers, thanks to local raw materials, recognized know-how and respect for each natural stage of the manufacturing process.

The Purposes of the Company

The Relocation of the Economy

Whether it concerns what goes into the brewery (supplies, raw materials, employment, expertise, etc.) or what comes out (beers, waste, residues), the Brasserie de la Lesse always has in mind to do as little as possible.
In terms of supplies, the brewery works, among other things, with recycled paper, returnable bottles, environmentally friendly cleaning products, quality equipment to avoid obsolescence, local firewood for brewing.
The beers are sold locally, whether to retailers, in the Horeca or to individuals.

Creation of Economic Activity in Rural Areas

Whether it is at the level of employees, self-employed workers, students, maintenance, supplies, services, transport, the presence of the brewery in the heart of the village of Eprave generates a diversity of needs provided by local service providers. Thus, it participates in a virtuous and beneficial circle for the region. No risks of relocation or outsourcing of labor.

Participative Management

The Brasserie de la Lesse belongs to its cooperators. A cooperator is a citizen who contributes capital to the brewery in the form of tranches of €250. This money has provided basic funds to invest in equipment necessary for the development of the company. The cooperators see it as an opportunity to invest money in a transparent, concrete and local way.

Low Energy Brewery

At the end of 2017, the move took place to an old renovated farm to make it a (very) low energy brewery: Ecological materials, straw insulation, log boiler for brewing, recovery of the energy produced, heat network, wastewater treatment, optimization of the process to reduce water and energy consumption, green electricity, solar panels, etc.
